EUROCITIES management |
The main decisions, including the election of the Executive Committee, are taken by the Annual General Meeting in which all member cities have a seat and a vote. It takes place in connection with an annual conference of the city network which is focussed on a European topic of special importance for the cities in the respective year. The annual conference in autumn 2008 in Den Haag, for example is dedicated to participation.
Leipzig became a member of the Executive Committee of EUROCITIES in 1997. On 29th November 2002, Leipzig's mayor Wolfgang Tiefensee was unanimously elected as the new President of EUROCITIES and fulfilled this task until 2004, according to the statutes. As a consequence, Leipzig now has a great opportunity of defining a lasting position for itself as a city making an impact in a European context.
As the only german city Leipzig is still represented in the Executive Committee of the EUROCITIES network. Leipzig's present mayor Burkhard Jung was elected to the Executive Committee by a vast majority in november 2006.

The Executive Committee has created temporary working groups for important political questions. It also directs the participation and cooperation platform which has substituted the former East-West Committee.
The platform "Participation und Cooperation" as a task force directly assigned to the Executive Committee, has been established in the course of the structural changes of the EUROCITIES network in 2004. The overlapping political working groups Lisbon-Strategy, Governance, Euro-Med, European Neighbourhood Policy and Urban Research are to be found within this platform.
Member cities: Leipzig, Helsinki, Vienna, Lille, Munich, Rotterdam, Turin, Dortmund, Cologne, Liverpool, Manchester
Partners: RGRE, Cecodhas, Celsig, CEEP |
