St Thomas's Church
St Thomas's Boys Choir can be enjoyed at St Thomas's Church every Friday a cappella with a motet, and on Saturdays with a Bach cantata and motet performed together with soloists and the Gewandhaus Orchestra (apart from during school holidays and concert tours). St Thomas's Boys Choir was founded almost 800 years ago, making it Leipzig's oldest cultural institution. It has been made world-famous over the centuries by a series of well-known choirmasters, including Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann Hermann Schein, Johann Kuhnau and Johann Adam Hiller. Its activities centre around the sacred music performed at the weekly church services and motets at St Thomas's Church. The choir can regularly be heard singing oratorios, passions and masses by J.S. Bach. In addition, it also performs sacred vocal music, madrigals and secular a cappella works from the Renaissance to the present day.

Theatre premiere: "Werther"- by Johann Wolfgang Goethe
The Sorrows of Young Werther- this epistolary novel from 1774 is one of the most consequential books of German literature.

In a country residence, the young Werther meets the bailiff's daughter Lotte and falls in love with her. But she is already married with Albert. Because of hopelessnee of love he fled in the diplomatic sevice.
But even there he finds no support, the intellectual narrowness, the snobbery and superficiality of courtly society are repugnant to him. he returns to the country but the tragic history continues....

This work found many supporters but also many imitators and mockers.
Goethe's praise of subjectivity was pure pop culture and was made for the emerging audience of the middle-class youth.

Opera premiere: Admetos, King of Thessaly - Georg Friedrich Händel
The story plays in the ancient Greece. To save her husband and King Admetos from the approching death, Alkestis submits to the divine fate verdict and is willing to die for him. As the King finds that out, he begs Herkules to descend into the underworld and release his wife.

Until there this story is classic. But you can be amazed - in Händels opera there are unexpectedly other tones. Unfaithfullness, jealousy, frauds and understatements up to terrorist attacks of the brother who always gets a raw deal.

For that the fates of four different women were portrayed: Alkestis, who sacrifices herself for her husband, Iphigenie in Aulis, who has to be sacrificed by her father, Iphigenie in Tauris, who has to sacrifice her brother Orest and Armida, who has to sacrifice her own heart.

European Auto Classic 2010
Leipzig owns the image of a living and multi-faceted city. However, the city - in the autoland Saxony with about hundred-year-old automobile construction tradition - is also the only city in Germany in which two car factories are resident. After the really successful events " European vintage & Classic Car & Motorcycle Convention Leipzig" in 2006 and 2008, in 2010 there will be again a new edition. The slightly unwieldy name was shortened, also to make the main focus "car" clear. The visitors can be glad about maximum 110 classical cars till construction year 1980.

In the program included are drives on streets which are accessible for oldtimers and regional delightful to the attractive sighting of the region, as for example the BMW- and Porsche-factory and the monument of the battle of nations.

Feelings of spring are aroused by stunning floral displays, sports activities get visitors back into shape, while a host of great ideas are a source of inspiration on brightening up the home. With around 800 exhibitors presenting consumer products and also some fascinating displays, it's not surprising that the Home-Garden-Leisure exhibition is one of the most popular leisure shows in Germany
