St Thomas's Church
St Thomas's Boys Choir can be enjoyed at St Thomas's Church every Friday a cappella with a motet, and on Saturdays with a Bach cantata and motet performed together with soloists and the Gewandhaus Orchestra (besides during school holidays and concert tours). St Thomas's Boys Choir was founded almost 800 years ago, making it Leipzig's oldest cultural institution. It has been made world-famous over the centuries by a series of well-known choirmasters, including Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann Hermann Schein, Johann Kuhnau and Johann Adam Hiller. Its activities centre around the sacred music performed at the weekly church services and motets at St Thomas's Church. The choir can regularly be heard singing oratorios, passions and masses by J.S. Bach. In addition, it also performs sacred vocal music, madrigals and secular a cappella works from the Renaissance to the present day. |

Gohlis Manor
The 'Gohlis public concerts' have been held every month's last Sunday since 28 February 1999. The more than 200 artists and ensembles to have already appeared include well-known chamber music groups from the Gewandhaus and regional broadcaster MDR, as well as selected soloists and ensembles from the fringe scene. Sometimes featuring a string quartet, sometimes a flute or chamber music, every concert is unique. |

Great Concerts at the turn of the year
On 31 December 1918 Arthur Nikisch started the tradition of the Leipzig New Year’s Eve Concerts with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at Krystallpalast in front of an audience of 2.800 people. Also this year, numerous visitors from near and far will not be able to resist the traditional concerts at the turn of the year in the City of Music. On 31 December 1918 Arthur Nikisch started the tradition of the Leipzig New Year’s Eve Concerts with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at Krystallpalast in front of an audience of 2.800 people.
