St Thomas's Church
St Thomas's Boys Choir can be enjoyed at St Thomas's Church every Friday a cappella with a motet, and on Saturdays with a Bach cantata and motet performed together with soloists and the Gewandhaus Orchestra (apart from during school holidays and concert tours). St Thomas's Boys Choir was founded almost 800 years ago, making it Leipzig's oldest cultural institution. It has been made world-famous over the centuries by a series of well-known choirmasters, including Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann Hermann Schein, Johann Kuhnau and Johann Adam Hiller. Its activities centre around the sacred music performed at the weekly church services and motets at St Thomas's Church. The choir can regularly be heard singing oratorios, passions and masses by J.S. Bach. In addition, it also performs sacred vocal music, madrigals and secular a cappella works from the Renaissance to the present day.

A cosmos of knowledge - 600 years Leipzig University
Leipzig University's library is a huge treasure chest with precious books of all cultures and times: The world's biggest papyrus, holy books of the Jewry or Islam, old maps, a letter of Albert Einstein but also a student caricature of 1498 can be seen.
Aim of the exhibition is on one hand to point out the uniqueness and special quality of the collection and on the other hand to deliver an insight view on the work "at the past" throughout centuries. An old and at the same time modern university should be understood by the obtained monuments of the academic interest and passion.

Operetta Revival: The Gypsy Baron - Johann Strauss
"The Gypsy Baron" is an operetta in three Acts by Johann Strauss II which premiered at the Theater an der Wien on 24 October 1885. Its libretto was by the author Ignaz Schnitzer and in turn was based on "Sáffi" by Mór Jókai. During the composer's lifetime, the operetta enjoyed great success, second only to the popularity of "Die Fledermaus". The scoring and the nature of Strauss's music may also lead many music critics to consider the stage work to that of a comic opera or a lyric opera.

Ballet-Premiere: Strawinsky II
"Petrushka" is a story of a Russian traditional puppet, Petrushka, who is made of straw and with a bag of sawdust as his body, but who comes to life and has the capacity to love, a story superficially resembling that of Pinocchio. According to Andrew Wachtel, Petrushka is a work that fuses music, ballet, choreography and history in perfect balance.

Opera premiere: Beneath the big sun weighed down with love - Luigi Nono
In his "scenic action" Luigi Nono tells a story of defeats out of women's perspectives: the woman in the Parisian commune (Louise Michel), during the Petersburger insurrection (Gorki's mother), the woman at the worker's insurgences in Turin (Cesare Paveses Deola), the woman in the South American lib.
In addition to documental credentials, Karl Marx and Bertolt Brecht can be read poems from Cesare Pavese and Rimbaud. For the orchestra, Luigi Nono writes to some extent "absolut" music and creates tangent compositions full of musical staginess.
