Leipzig takes top place in online survey on family friendliness

(13.12.2011)

Leipzig has come out on top in an online survey implemented by Lego GmbH on the family friendliness of Germany's twelve largest cities. With an overall rating of 2.7 the city is ahead of Dresden, Düsseldorf and Bremen which each received a rating of 2.8.

Just under 2000 parents took part in the survey in October 2011. "The ratings given by the parents indicate that families and children feel very much at home in Leipzig", says Deputy Mayor Thomas Fabian. "In our city they find excellent child-care opportunities and a wide range of cultural and leisure facilities. We intend to continue expanding these facilities in the years to come."

Categories evaluated

  • housing,
  • child care,
  • schools,
  • leisure facilities and
  • family friendliness of neighbourhoods and shops.

In the following fields Leipzig did exceptionally well in comparison with the other cities:

  • children's play facilities in public parks and recreational areas,
  • the availability of nursery and day-care places,
  • the family friendliness of the surroundings and
  • the availability of low-cost, good-quality housing.
