On January 20, the 100,000th second-generation Cayenne was assembled in Leipzig. This production anniversary is also the prelude to an eventful year at the Saxon Porsche factory. "The success story of Porsche Leipzig GmbH began ten years ago. Where there was once a green field, stands now one of the most advanced automotive plants in the world. In addition to the Cayenne, just under 70,000 Panameras have been assembled so far in Leipzig. Therefore it is not surprising that Porsche Leipzig GmbH had a record year in 2011: Over 93,600 vehicles left the factory in the period from January to December 2011 – more than in any of the previous years," says Wolfgang Leimgruber, Production Director of Porsche AG.
100,000th Cayenne to be shipped to Brazil
The 100,000th Cayenne will be shipped to Brazil, where the sporty "pure white" SUV with V8 engine will be handed over to its new owner. The Cayenne is currently sold in over 124 markets in five versions, ranging from 180 kW (245 HP) to 368 kW (500 HP) and average fuel consumptions of 7.2 to 11.5 litres per 100 kilometres. Taking first and second generations of the Cayenne together, Porsche have delivered over 360,000 cars to customers worldwide since 2002.
