On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the 9th of October, citizens from the east and west, members of the church and peace activists formed the foundation “Peaceful Revolution”. Foundation Director Christian Führer said, „ We don’t want to put the peaceful revolution in the museum. We want to go further and inspire the people to continue to act today.”
The city of Leipzig supports the foundation, whose mission is to draw lessons from the events of 1989 and utilize them today as well as make them useful for the future as well as to use the spirit of the peaceful revolution to fight repression, injustice and violence. The foundation’s main purposes are civil, democratic and ecclesiastical commitment, justice, the preservation of creation, the non-violent solution to problems as well as measures to strengthen civil courage and democratic thought and action.
