DHL's new logistics hub at Leipzig/Halle Airport:
- Logistics giant DHL is investing €300 million to relocate its European cargo hub to Leipzig in 2008. This will result in 3,500 new jobs at DHL as well as another 7,000 jobs among suppliers and contractors by 2012.
- Operating around the clock, up to 34,000 international cargo flights will be possible annually.
- Through its joint venture with Lufthansa Cargo, freight services to Asia and the USA are now available.

Internet retailer amazon builds a new mail-order centre:
- In autumn 2006, amazon, the world's largest internet retailer, completed its biggest mail-order centre in Germany which is 70,000 square metres in size and at peak times employs up to 1,000 people.
- Planning permission for this previously council-owned site was awarded in just 16 days.
