Road access to Leipzig benefits greatly from the city's privileged location at the junction of the A 9 (Munich – Berlin) and A 14 (Magdeburg – Dresden) motorways. The A38 (Leipzig–Göttingen) completes the orbital around Leipzig.
The future main road network will comprise the motorway orbital, the middle ring road being developed step by step, the inner tangential quadrilateral being built to different standards, and link roads in between. Promenadenring surrounding the city centre will become the main collecting road for central Leipzig.
