10 – St. Nicholas's Church |
In recent history, St. Nicholas's Church heard many the prayers for freedom and as a result saw the peaceful revolution come about, which lead the way to German reunification in 1989. It is also the oldest church in the city. It was constructed in 1150 and the first documented reference to it was in 1213.
The church has been considerably altered over the years and contains elements of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Classicist periods.
The concert organ (four manuals) is one of the largest in Germany.
