20 - Bach Museum in Bose House |
The Bose House is to be found opposite St Thomas's Church. The 16th century four-winged merchant's house was renovated and extended in the 18th century style by merchant Georg Heinrich Bose. In doing so he retained the notable entrance hall with its impressive original arch dating from 1586.
Bach's family were frequent guests in the home of the merchant Georg Bose. The festival hall was used as a concert venue.
Today the Leipzig Bach Archive and the Bach Museum are accommodated here. The Museum houses the permanent exhibition "Bach in Leipzig", which offers insights into the life, works and subsequent influence of Bach.
