The complex of the GRASSI Museum is located at the Johannisplatz. In the wings, which border the inner courtyard, 3 different museums are arranged: the Museum of Applied Arts, Museum of Ethnology and the Museum of Musical Instruments of the University of Leipzig. In the inner courtyard summery concerts and art actions take place.
During the years 2000-2005 the complex of buildings was modernized and reconstructed basically. For the first time since the end of the war the 3 museums are able to present their collections effectively. The house counts to the most significant German museum constructions of the 20s of the last century.
The Old St. John's Cemetery on which from 1278 on the lepers were buried and which served till 1883 as the sole cemetery of the city joins the complex. Tombs from the time of the baroque, the rococo and the classicism testify from famous Leipzig citizens.
