"I'm very happy to reopen our district library in Plagwitz one day before The World Book Day. We worked hard to make this happen, a lot of preparations had to be made." said Susanne Metz, director of Leipziger Städtische Bibliotheken. The construction site was crowded the final three weeks before the opening ceremony. Different contractors and craftsmen were finishing the installations and the wide-ranging collection was moved back into new shelves and departments.
Modern interior that matches the historic character of the building paired with up-to-date technology creates an unique location for reading, learning, relaxing, different activities and events. The heart of the library is the new Family Library with a big collection for children, parents and grandparents and with everything related to kids, parenting and education. The record has made a comeback with the new VinylBar filled with a collection of 250 records. A new function room offers space for workshops and events.
The library expanded opening hours Monday to Friday until 7 p.m. and is fully accessible for handicapped persons. Borrowed items can be returned outside of opening hours at the automatic return unit.
