The Westpaket festival is popular for the opportunity it provides for people to stroll along Karl-Heine-Straße and browse through what is offered there, in particular by artists and designers. Visitors can also enjoy the accompanying programme, which includes performing arts, music and entertainment together with culinary delights.
This year Westpaket will be a little smaller in scale, to enable visitors to stroll around in a relaxed atmosphere. West culture is combined with culinary pleasures and flea market treasures. Young Leipzig musicians will be performing on stage in front of the Druckstatt café, while buskers will also be creating a feel-good atmosphere. Creative spirits can apply their talents to rally cars provided by the Orienthelfer e. V. organisation. In return for a small donation they can paint the vehicles, with the money going to Syrian refugees in Lebanon. In addition, the "Books to the People" initiative makes the books of the old trade union library of VEB Chemieanlagenbaukombinat Leipzig-Grimma available for borrowing for one final time - without any deadline for their return.
